Flood Insurance

Hi Everyone: Did you know.....?? Just a few inches of water from a flood can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage to your home.  During the past decade, a flood claim with only 5 inches of water has amounted to more than $33,000. Flood insurance is the best way to protect yourself from this devastating financial loss. As a reminder, flood insurance must be purchased before flooding occurs and has a 30-day waiting period from the date of the application (unless purchased in conjunction with a loan closing). FLOOD DAMAGE is NOT covered by homeowners or standard commercial property insurance policies Statistics indicate homeowners are FOUR TIMES MORE LIKELY to suffer a loss from a flood versus a fire or other catastrophic event 70 to 80 percent of all U. The Story of Insurance

One night in ancient times, three horseman were riding across the dry bed of a river.  Out of the darkness a voice shouted “HALT”..whereupon they did.  The voice then said, “Dismount and gather rocks from the ground and put them in your pockets.”  They did as instructed and the voice said, “You have done as I commanded.  Tomorrow you will be both glad and sorry.”  Puzzled the horsemen rode on.

The next morning they found that the rocks they had collected had transformed into diamonds and rubies and they remembered the warning the voice said to them.  They were indeed both glad and sorry.  Glad they had taken some and sorry they had not taken more…..And this is the story of insurance.

Wine Making

I know it's not insurance related, but here's a report on our annual wine making this past weekend.  We had a record 25 people over my house and we all enjoyed making wine.  My family has been doing this since 1980 and every year it seems more & more people are coming over to "help".  This year we made a combination of Merlot, Cabernet, Alligante and Barbera grapes.  Of course no event at my house is complete without plenty of food.  We served lunch and dinner for 25 people.  I'm so gratefull for all the help I had because I could have never done it on my own.  For dinner we served Turkey Empinadas (the turkey was shot at my Uncle's farm upstate).  As a pasta course, I served Cavettelli with a pork ragu.  The meat consisted of Pork loin with a parsley/rosemarie bread crumbs.  Everything was delicious and we drank 4 gallons of last year's wine!! I promise more frequent posts and my next one will be about insurance.  In the mean time, check out our we ...

Hello All! My First Blog

Hi World.  This is my very first blog.  It might take me a while to get the hang of this, but my goal is to both inform you and maybe in some way entertain you.  My profession is insurance.  I have been in the industry for over 25 years and love it.  For the past 22 years, I have been proud to work for Brooks-Waterburn Corp.  We are an independent agent located in Westbury, NY.  I know what you're thinking; "How can insurance be entertaining?"  The truth is that an insurance policy is quiet boring.  It entertains on how insurance effects the lives of everyone.  Whether you had a claim and insurance saved you financially, or some of the interaction between our agency and customers, not a day goes by that I don't find something that makes all our hard work all worth it. So here's my promise to you.  My goal is to try and educate and inform.  Insurance is not just some commodity that you go to the lowest price.  Saving 15% can cost you ...
